Charity Sewing: Preemie Pillows

Charity Sewing:
Preemie Pillows

Join Becky and our amazing community of volunteers as we create soft positioning pillows for premature babies in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UNM Hospital. Your time and stitches bring comfort to some of the tiniest, most fragile little ones and their families.

We need volunteers to:

  • Cut fabric
  • Trace patterns
  • Sew pillow shapes
  • Stuff and finish pillows

Please note: This is not a sewing instruction class; participants who wish to sew should already be familiar with basic machine operation and bring their own sewing machine.

Can’t Attend In Person?

You can still help! A limited number of pillow kits are available at the shop for you to take home. Complete them at home and deliver back to the shop.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Confident Beginner sewing skills if you plan to bring your machine. We also need volunteers to cut fabric, trace patterns, and stuff pillows!
Materials Included: Supplies provided (fabric, stuffing, notions, irons, ironing boards, scissors, etc)
Instructor: Becky Thomson
Instructor Bio: Becky is a former NICU nurse who also happens to be a sewist/quilter and works at Hip Stitch as a creative outlet. She knows first-hand the difference these tiny pillows can make, and knows the difference that you can make by making them.
