Beyond the Basics - Reusable Tote Bag



Expand your basic sewing skills! Learn how to sew a reusable tote bag with an attached 'pouch' in which to roll up and store the bag. (purchase of Reusable Tote Bag Kit is required). It is recommended to pickup your kit ahead of the class and prewash your fabric if you can please. You can iron out your fabric in class.

Supplies needed:

Sewing Machine
Size 90/14 universal needle for machine
Curved ruler
Thread (Poly blend is recommended)
Scissors
Pins or clips
Seam ripper
Pattern papper to trace the pattern
Wash away tape

Skill Details: This class reinforces essential skills learned in Hip Stitch Basics while making a reusable tote bag. (Ages 14+)
Materials Included: Pressing Stations and cutting stations available. Machines are also available for in-class use (please let us know in advance if you will need one).
Requirements: Well-maintained machine in good working order. Want to use one of our machines? Just let us know in the "notes" area of your online shopping cart when you register that you need to use one of ours, or simply call/email the shop to let us know you need a machine. (If you call/email, please mention class name and date). You will need to purchase a Reusable Tote Bag Bag Kit (available online or in-store) for this class - kit includes the fabric you need as well as the link to download the pdf pattern. If you need any additional fabric/notions, students will get a 15 percent in-store discount on fabric and other supplies and notions (day of class; excludes sewing machines, and Hip Stitch exclusive fabrics).
Instructor: Celina Rosales
Instructor Bio: Celina has been sewing and designing for over 30 years. Her amazing mother taught her how to sew at the age of seven and Celina instantly fell in love with the craft. She studied costume design for the performing arts at the University of New Mexico and worked in theatre and film projects while in college. She was chosen as the head costume designer on a student collaborative theatre play for UNM her senior year. She also worked in wardrobe and makeup artistry for theatre for a few years. In 2017 life took her abroad where she became a sewing teacher for military families on the military base in Okinawa Japan. She also headed her own small alterations and makeup business while living abroad. She found joy in teaching others how to sew and has been teaching ever since. Celina has made it her mission to leave her legacy in the sewing community as a teacher and mentor to others seeking to enjoy the wonderful world of sewing and design.
