Scrappy Sewcial
It's a scrappy sew day! Come work on your scrappy sewing project(s) with friends! Feel free to bring a scrappy project to work on or start a new one. Want a real challenge? Don't bring any fabric, just sew from our baskets of color sorted scraps. Most quilters/sewists are constantly generating scraps, and they can make some really fun and truly one of a kind projects. Plus, sewing with scraps makes our hobby feel more, well "sew-stainable"! ;)
NOTE: If you bring scraps to share please limit those to quilting cottons. At the end of each event Hip Stitch staff will sort through the remaining scraps and set non-quilting fabrics aside for donation/resale.
Unlike a class or workshop, this is the perfect chance to work on a project of your choice and sew in a relaxed, social setting in the company of others. There will be sewing, chatting, snacks, and you can have fun while making progress on your project (or not, no pressure!).
What’s included?
- Full use of the classroom and equipment including design wall, large tables, irons, scissors, etc
- Bring your own machine or use one of ours (please let us know in advance if you want to reserve one of our machines)
- Feel free to bring tea/coffee/soft drinks, snacks, etc for yourself and/or to share (they need to stay in the classroom/kitchen)
- We'll set up a couple tables of scraps of quilting cotton sorted by color for everyone to use. Feel like sharing? You can top up the scrap baskets with your own quilting cotton scraps when you arrive. Bring a gallon sized baggie of scraps to add to our baskets. At the end of the event you can fill your baggie with other scraps to take home. NOTE: If you bring scraps to share please limit those to quilting cottons. At the end of each event we will sort through the remaining scraps and remove any fabrics that are not quilting weight, such as decorator fabrics, knits, rayon, etc, to be used/donated/sold elsewhere.
Important - Please note this is not a class but a sewcial sewing group hosted by Julia. This is an opportunity to enjoy the social aspect of scrappy sewing amongst a group of other like-minded scrap enthusiasts. In addition to Julia, one or more off-duty staff might also be in the group, but they'll be enjoying the rare opportunity to sew amongst everyone, too. That being said, you are, of course, welcome to ask questions amongst the group if you are stuck and we are sure staff and everyone else would be willing to help each other. That's just how we crafty types are. :)
Can't find just what you need on the communal "Great Mount Scrapmore"? You can always shop the store!
