Thread Academy #2

Thread is often taken for granted by sewists. It can add beauty to projects with the right know-how. These classes explore creative and aesthetic qualities thread choices can achieve.

In Part 2, on April 4,  we learn Couching, which is a form of surface embellishment. It adds texture and interest to your works. We begin with basic couching and then do twisted couching, use decorative stitches and then make our own couching cords.

Supplies:
Sewing threads, decorative colors, bring several (bring some 40 weight variegated threads)
Needles- Topstitch size 90
Chenille hand sewing needles, size 18
Sewing machine with a walking foot, an open toe applique foot, and a couching foot (optional)
Fabric markers
Narrow trims such as ribbon floss, narrow ribbons, heavy cords, yarns to couch
A plain quilt sandwich, 18" to 20" square
5" scrap of fabric to contrast with the quilt sandwich
5" scrap of paper backed fusible web, Heat n Bond Lite or Wonder Under
Basic sewing supplies
