Jalie Joanie Dress & T-shirt
In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will build foundational garment-construction skills using the versatile Jalie Joanie Dress & T-shirt Pattern. Choose between crafting a classic everyday tee (Option B) or a casual, comfortable knee-length t-shirt dress (Option A). You will learn how to measure for knit garments, work with stretch fabrics, handle neckbands, and customize your piece with optional details like a chest pocket or charming tulip sleeves.
Please pick up your pattern, fabric, and notions ahead of the class time. Yes pre-wash your fabric as this is a garment and we need to get rid of the pre-shrink. The pattern will have information on the back side for the amount of fabric you will need per size as well as the type of fabric best suited for the pattern and additional notions.
If you wish to preserve your pattern, please do so before class. If you do not know how to preserve your pattern, it is tracing your pattern for the size you wish to use instead of cutting into your original pattern. Ensure you trace all marking from the pattern to include; patten name, size, grainline, notches, etc.
Supplies Needed:
Sewing Machine
Overlock/Serger machine (This is optional. If you have one you can bring to class. We also have a few in the classroom that can be used.)
Size 90/14 or 80/12 ball point or jersey needle for machine
Curved ruler (optional - comes in handy if continuing with garment sewing)
Thread (Poly blend is recommended)
Scissors (paper and fabric)
Pins or clips
Seam ripper
Pattern ease to preserve the pattern
Measuring tape
Marking tools (tailor's chalk, fabric markers/pens/pencils)

| Requirements: | Well-maintained machine in good working order (or just use one of ours!). If you would prefer to use one of our machines, just let us know in the "notes" area of your online shopping cart when you register that you need to use one of ours, or simply call/email the shop to let us know you need a machine. (If you call/email, please mention which session you are in). You don't need to bring any fabric for the project we'll work on in class, however, students will get a 15-percent in-store discount on fabric and other supplies and notions (day of class; excludes sewing machines, machine service/repair, and Hip Stitch exclusive fabrics). |

| Instructor Bio: | Celina has been sewing and designing for over 30 years. Her amazing mother taught her how to sew at the age of seven and Celina instantly fell in love with the craft. She studied costume design for the performing arts at the University of New Mexico and worked in theatre and film projects while in college. She was chosen as the head costume designer on a student collaborative theatre play for UNM her senior year. She also worked in wardrobe and makeup artistry for theatre for a few years. In 2017 life took her abroad where she became a sewing teacher for military families on the military base in Okinawa Japan. She also headed her own small alterations and makeup business while living abroad. She found joy in teaching others how to sew and has been teaching ever since. Celina has made it her mission to leave her legacy in the sewing community as a teacher and mentor to others seeking to enjoy the wonderful world of sewing and design. |
