We’ve always had a secret desire to drive a bulldozer, but the next best thing is sewing with one, as in Stacey Iest Hsu’s new On the Go collection for Moda Fabrics. This children’s line will, um, transport your kids’ quilts and projects with its focus on things that move: trucks, cars, planes, helicopters and, yes, heavy duty construction equipment. (Sigh!) The colors have a kinetic energy all their own—crisp red, apple green, turquoise, orange and medium gray. The whimsical collection’s prints include both simple and detailed designs, such as traffic sign collages, planes-on-a-grid, an aerial airport map and busy streets. The “little town” panel would be a perfect play mat, with its streets, roundabouts, buildings and houses. (Just bring your own cars)! As a mom and a former designer for such kid-friendly labels as Janie and Jack, GapKids and Tiny Prints, Stacey’s creations are spot on for lively little ones. She also designs Cut. Sew.Create project kits for Moda.
