Reut's Prickly Pear Cactus Collage is a Hip Stitch exclusive featuring hand-dyed and hand-printed fabrics. This kit brings togther applique, embroidery and piecework. Your finished wall hanging will measure approximately 17 by 21 inches. Included in the kit are fabric which Reut has hand-dyed. Also included is a panel which she hand prints in a mono-print process called eco-printing, using leaves to make impressions as a naturalistic backdrop for the subject cactus. This kit also incorporates a swatch of fabric from fabric designer and art quilter Terri Mangat's "Bee's Knees" collection to be fussy cut. That fabric collection is out of print.
With this combination of hand-printed, hand-dyed and out-of-print collectible fabrics, no two of these kits can or will ever be alike.
You'll piece together the backing fabrics, applique the cactus and add sashiko embroidered detail to make this truly one of kind wall hanging.
Included is a short story of how Reut would harvest the "tunas" from the prickly pears -- the bright red fruit of the cactus. Here's the twist -- she grew up in Israel. The prickly pear -- a Southwest native -- has been introduced around the world.
